Rosemoor announces its Herbal Medicine Week

GREAT TORRINGTON, UK, June 16, 2009: RHS Garden Rosemoor is celebrating the National Herbal Medicine Week from 20 – 27 June. A fascinating workshop on the wonderful world of plant remedies is set to take place on Tuesday 23 June.

There has been a new surge of interest in herbal medicine over the last few months, thanks to the trend for all things natural and organic. It’s fascinating to learn about the medicinal uses of different plants and flowers and what they can do for our health and wellbeing. As well as the better known herbal medicines – Echinacea to boost your immune system, Camomile to help you sleep and Lavender to relax you – there are many others which we have not heard so much about. Lemon balm, for example, can be used as a sedative and to treat the symptoms of anxiety, while lime flowers can reduce muscle tension and help reduce blood pressure.
The workshop at Rosemoor, ‘An introduction to Herbal Medicine’, with Herbalist Linda Moran, will look at the tradition and history of herbal medicines, identifying some of their healing properties and therapeutic uses. Throughout the day you will prepare several herbal remedies and tasting many herbal teas and tinctures. The workshop costs £30 (£25 for RHS members) and runs from 10.30am – 5pm. Please call 01805 626800 to book your place.
