FitzGerald Nurseries announce their latest product novelties

KILKENNY, Ireland, December 16, 2009: FitzGerald Nurseries, a specialist young plant producer with its own tissue culture laboratory based in Kilkenny Ireland has announced its latest product novelties.
Specialising in a wide range of patio and foliage plants for outdoor use FitzGerald Nurseries has developed its own brand called MyPlant (www.myplant.eu). Plants of our niche products are being exported worldwide. At IPM 2008 and 2009 Phormium cookianum ‘Black Adder’ and Yucca gloriosa ‘Bright Star’ won best plant in their categories for FitzGerald. This year FitzGerald will be entering Carex oshimensis ‘Everillo’ which is a stunning chartreuse (yellowgreen) colour foliage introduction and  hardy in most European countries. ‘Everillo’ is part of the nursery breeding  program and  like Carex ‘Evergold, ‘Everest’ and ‘Evergreen’  FitzGerald Nurseries hopes that ‘Everillo’ will be a widely used plant in combination planters, and stand alone containers on patios and balconies around the world in the coming years.  The new variety ‘Everillo’ is yet another evergreen foliage colour introduction from FitzGerald Nurseries.
Also new for 2010 is the introduction of our sweet potato young plants. Sweet potatoes are becoming increasingly popular as part of a healthy diet in Europe. A number of  marketing concepts have been developed in the UK and Holland already. Home production of sweet potato can for example be done in big plastic containers and therefore make the crop possible for a wider range of consumers. This crop is especially interesting for younger people without a garden who want to grow something special and have been travelling to countries like USA, Australia, Middle East and many of the Pacific Islands where sweet potato is a common vegetable. The dietary advantages of sweet potato are now well recognised and even recommended by dieticians for very young babies beginning their solid food diets.
In 2010 MyPlant will introduce more than just new and interesting plants for the European market. In Sweden a technical device was developed to protect valuable patio and container plants during the winter. The consumer can leave the plants outside and the heavy pots don’t have to be moved into the winter location anymore or given to the local nursery for overwintering.
